On Monday, June 10th, Apple held its annual World Wide Developers Conference announcing iOS 7 as well as OS X Mavericks (Apples next generation Macintosh Operating System). Apple not only announced their new operating systems, but also announced an improved version of their Mac Book Air line ups. As iOS 7 and OS X Mavericks are not released to the public until the fall, both the iOS Beta, and Mac OS Developer Preview were released to developers. Here well briefly discuss the shocking new simplistic iOS 7 design, new features including Control Center, and updated Applications in iOS. For example, iOS 7 adds a realistic 3D feel to the operating system, including advanced animation, translucent layering, as well as a astonishing multitasking redesign. In Summary, after diving into iOS 7 its easy to see that substantial part of iOS 7 was inspired by jailbreaking.
iOS 7 Announcement, Features, Redesign, Supported Devices, Control Center, Jailbreak? WWDC 2013 and More.
The first thing you notice when you update your iDevice to iOS 7 is its drastic redesign, featuring a more simplistic, flattened look. Even when Apple announced their new operating system they proclaimed it was "The biggest change to iOS since the iPhone!" and boy were they right! Apple introduced a cleaner, more simplistic, flattened interface which features advanced animations as well as translucent layering effects. This completely re-imagines the feel of using your iOS device, while keeping the functionality and way of use exactly the same. App icons shift to the motion dictated by the accelerometer, giving a feeling of 3D space to the home screen. This is much like the jailbreak tweak "3D Board." Furthermore, certain menus, as well as the keyboard are translucent giving the user an improved sense of space, and an overall improved iOS experience.
As first seen in the photo above, apple has also introduced an incredible installment the much need feature, Control Center. This allows users to swipe or "Pull up" from the bottom of the screen to quickly access important settings and features. Airplane Mode, Wifi, Bluetooth, Sleep Mode and Rotation lock are located on the first row. Brightens, as well as iPod controls can be accessed. With the installment of Air drop, even it can be accessed from here. Furthermore quick apps such as the Clock app, Calculator, and Camera app can be accessed. Finally on the very bottom left, apple even added a LED flashlight toggle directly to their operating system! The best part, this feature can be accessed with out even unlocking your phone!
Notification Center has also been improved adding a "tabbed" interface supporting an overview of "todays" notifications, "all" notifications and finally "missed" notifications. In addition to this amazing update, Apple also allows access to Notification Center on the Lock Screen, just like Control Center.
Another feature to receive a substantial update is Siri. Siri has not only been completely redesigned, supporting a new translucent user interface, but has also been updated with new voices as well as new commands and usefulness. Siri can now adjust and control system setting settings such as adjusting brightness or turning on/off wifi. Furthermore Siri also supports new personal features such as looking up new movies and other great useful features.
The most significant updates is the astonishing, completely re-designed Multitasking user interface. It features a large overview of every application running in the background, with the corresponding app icon directly below the preview. As well as the fantastic redesign, Apple now offers a brilliant update feature which keeps every app updated real-time, while still maintaining battery life. Apple designed the operating system to update the apps you use most frequently, as well as updating more applications while your connected to a fast internet connection such as Wifi or LTE, compared to 3G or E.
Finally the last huge update to iOS is the features now available in the Photos and Camera applications. The Camera app now features four different camera modes (Video, Photo, Square, Pano) which can easily be accessed by simply swiping across the screen. Furthermore both applications now feature a built in set of photo filters, even allowing them to be used in real time.
Furthermore once your photo has been taken, you will quickly notice that the Photos application has been completely redesigned with three new tabs. (Photos, Shared, Albums) Albums is exactly like the iOS 6 version of "Photos." The new "Photos" tab, which the application initially launches into, is completely new, categorizing your photos into "Moments, Collections, and Years."
Lastly, a big installment of anti-theft protection has been added to iOS 7. The new OS now requires the original iCloud account associated with the device if the devices is ever lost or stolen. Even if the device is "Restored" it will still require this information. iOS also allows you to block FaceTime, iMessage, and/or phone numbers directly in "Settings."
Other Updates Include:
iOS Applications Automatically update on their own when you are connected to a fast internet connection such as Wifi.
Also, as the Mac is familiar to Air Drop, apple now adds this incredible feature to their mobile operating system. This allows users to quickly and conveniently share information, photos, and other files to other nearby iOS devices, simply by turning on bluetooth or Wifi.
iTunes Radio, similar to Applications such as Pandora or iHeartRadio, is now easily accessed in the iPod application. Just like its similar services, its free with adds, or Add free and customizable to iTunesMatch Subscribers. ($25 a year)
